Dulwich College Refurbishment
Built in the 1600’s, Dulwich College is a Grade II Listed Building comprising historic buildings and green open spaces in a delightful environment.
The College currently accommodates 1400 boys, of whom 120 are boarders; this makes the college one of the largest independent schools in the United Kingdom.
Diamond Build carried out a prioritised schedule of refurbishment, both internal and external, to most parts of this historic institution. This included a new roof on the Great Hall, general refurbishment on guttering and balustrades as well as both internal and external decoration.
With parts of the building being over 300 years old, preservation is of primary importance, so to that end extensive inspections were undertaken into damp and dry rot in the Hammerhead beams in the Great Hall.
The works were scoped to manage this part of the project and a 20 year guarantee formulated. Following a full survey regarding the fire protection at the college (in close conjunction and with complete endorsement from English Heritage and Building Control), Diamond Build carried out fire compartmenting, sills and door upgrades.
